Introducing the Deer Stalkers Rifle Course

A course of three one hour one-to-one lessons (or one three hour session) designed to take a novice through all the basics of safe rifle handling, to include how to assess if a shot is safe, basic stalking shooting positions, simulated high seat, shooting off sticks, prone from a bi-pod and rolled up bag/coat and free standing and kneeling. At the end of the course the shooter will be equipped to pass the “Stalkers Rifle Test” which forms part of many classroom based (mainly non-shooting) stalking courses.

No prior rifle shooting experience is necessary, all equipment, suitable stalking calibre rifle with scope sight, ammunition, shooting aids, targets, tuition from our experienced instructors who are all keen stalkers themselves, range hire and hearing/eye protection is included. You are welcome to use your own rifle should you have one.

On completion of the course the shooter should be capable of hunting with a professional stalker in Scotland or elsewhere. The final lesson will include a live run through of the commonly used “Stalkers Rifle Test” and a logbook detailing the elements of the course you have successfully completed, along with your target, will be issued. This may assist in your application for a Firearms Certificate. Should you opt to take the Level One DSC you can be confident of your shooting abilities. The course is available from January 2013 until 30th April 2013 and all lessons must be taken within this period. The cost for the course is £295, including up to 150 x .22 rimfire and 50 x .243 rounds.

Africa and the Art of Technology

An art exhibition, featuring the work of American artist, Jan Perkins, will go on display in Holland & Holland’s Bruton Street Store from April 25th through to July 26th, 2013. Jan Perkins is masterful in the art of digital painting. She paints exclusively from her private collection of wildlife photographs, composing animal and landscape in perfect harmony. Jan devotes all of her time to her artistic pursuits, creating beautiful, vibrant and unique works.

Digital painting is an emerging art form that combines traditional painting techniques with the use of graphics technology. The result is extraordinary. Traditional painting techniques are applied using an array of digital devices such as a computer, a digitizing tablet, a stylus brush and professional software. The artist paints directly on the computer to create an image with precise hand movements and pressure-sensitive brush strokes.

Ladies Green Feathers Course – 2013

Since its launch in 1995, the Green Feathers course has introduced over 1,300 ladies with little or no shooting experience to the pleasures of shotgun shooting. The course began in response to comments from many ladies who, though sometimes present at shoots, felt somewhat unprepared to take their own place in the line. Yet shooting is one of those sports where women can easily be the equal to, if not better than, their male peers.

The course takes place at the Holland & Holland Shooting Grounds – situated in unspoilt rolling countryside just a 40-minute drive from central London. The Grounds can also be accessed by London Underground on the Metropolitan Line to Northwood Station followed by a 5 minute taxi ride.

Each participant may book three one-hour lessons with one of the renowned Holland & Holland instructors or share three two-hour lessons with a friend or fellow participant. Lessons are by appointment Monday to Friday and some Saturdays from February until late April. They are tailored to the individual needs of each participant, whether they have never held a shotgun before or have ‘had a go’ but never really been taught to shoot.

At the conclusion of the course, all participants will gather at the Grounds, at 9.30am for a 10.00am start, on Thursday 25th April 2013, for the Final Day of the Green Feathers. The morning is spent putting these new shooting skills to the test over a variety of clay-shooting stands. A delicious luncheon is followed by a simulated pheasant drive, plus there is a chance to try full-bore rifle shooting on our 100-yard range.

The 4 top-scoring ladies will each receive a place in the line at a Holland & Holland Game Shoot during the 2013 season and every participant completing the course will receive an enamelled ‘Green Feather’ brooch.

The price of £280.00 is fully inclusive of all necessary equipment including guns if required, instruction, 50 cartridges and clays per lesson and participation in the final day as detailed above. Before the final day, you can top up your practice by taking advantage of our discounted lessons at £65 per hour, and cartridges & clays are charged on consumption. These discounted lessons are available on weekdays only, so book early to avoid disappointment!
