RIFLE INSTRUCTION

ImageEveryone who shoots a rifle needs to be accurate. In competition shooting, poor marksmanship will destroy any chance of winning. For hunters and deer stalkers, the welfare of an animal is at stake, and the repercussions of a poor shot in Africa can be deadly. So whether it is your intention to shoot the small bore calibres for fun, or to shoot the full bore calibres with the intention of eventually graduating to Big Game, the fundamental principles regarding rifle handling and safety principles remain the same.

Successful rifle shooting depends on receiving the proper tuition from a skilled and qualified professional shooting instructor on a formal shooting range. Our resident rifle instructor is not only an expert at target shooting over a range of calibres and shooting positions, but he is also a fully qualified Professional Hunter trained in South Africa. We believe we are one of the very few shooting grounds to offer this unique expertise to their clients. Our range is fully certified with shooting positions at 50 (open) and 100 (covered) metres.

For experienced shots wishing to practice and improve their technique, we are happy to provide the necessary facilities under the watchful eye of one of our professional instructors.

For those wishing to take up rifle shooting with a view to ultimately taking up deer stalking, we would recommend a course of lessons in order to adequately cover the many areas of interest. We have an extensive selection of rifles, both magazine and double, in varying calibres available for clients to use, from the small .22 rimfire up to the .375 H&H. Other larger calibres can be made available by special arrangement.

Essential areas, which would be covered during a course of rifle shooting lessons, would include:

  • Safety
  • Positional shooting - prone, standing, sitting and the use of sticks
  • Breathing control
  • Aim Points
  • An understanding of ballistics
  • Open sights versus telescopic sights
  • Zero-ing
  • Bore-sighting
  • Calibre suitability
  • Stalking techniques
  • Rifle maintenance
