Holland & Holland Shooting Instructors Steve Rawsthorne and Clive Jeffreys won the top prize at the inaugural Froyle Estate rifle shoot in May. Held by kind permission of Mrs. Cannon, the competition consisted of three shots at a life size Fallow target off sticks at 180 yards and three prone on the same target. This was followed by three shots at a black Roe silhouette at 240 yards, three at a life size steel fox head at 320 yards and finally three shots at 360 yards at steel disks.
There were many keen rifle shots competing, including professional stalkers from the Forestry Commission, an ex-Army sniper and a number of Gamekeepers. The shoot was followed by a barbecue and presentation of the Winners Shield and it is intended to make it an annual challenge.
Steve is an avid stalker, out four or more times a week and keen rifle shot and reloader. Clive shot long range targets at Bisley for many years and was a Schoolboy Champion. Both are available to instruct on the Holland & Holland Stalkers Course, covering most aspects of rifle shooting and practical shooting from sticks, high seat and more. During the three hour course participants can expect to fire around fifty centre fire rifle rounds on the hundred yard rifle range at the London Shooting Grounds.
